On a local and national level, the Red Cross works together with government, business, labor unions, religious and community organizations as well as other voluntary agencies--identifying resources and roles, sharing information, finding ways to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to any disaster that strikes.

Local outreach efforts in 2007, for example, resulted in new training and partnerships with nearly 100 business, community, educational, faith-based and government groups such as:

Hispanic Contractors Association
The Red Cross provided disaster preparedness training in Spanish to 110 contractors and their families.

Retired Black Nurses of Grady Hospital
We recruited and trained 15 retired nurses, nearly doubling the number of nurses available to support disaster relief operations and help with preparedness education in the community.

Morehouse School of Medicine Special Volunteer Homeland Security Program
Our instructors trained 57 community leaders as disaster educators to help with efforts in at-risk communities.

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity
The Red Cross signed a letter of intent to provide disaster preparedness information for new homeowners as part of their required homeowner education.

Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta
The Red Cross works in partnership with the Furniture Bank of Atlanta to offer individuals and families affected by disasters a resource for furniture. Through our collaboration and great partnership, the Red Cross and Furniture Bank of Atlanta have helped more than 150 families replace furniture lost in a disaster.
